Confirmands Servant Project

Our 7th and 8th grade confirmands served dinner to the senior residents of Shadley Apartments.

We served about 55 residents.

We would like to thank all the volunteers who made pies for this servant project.

Jan 17 Ski Trip Summary

On Saturday, January 17, Zion youth and chaperones ventured off to Grand Geneva Ski Resort. We had twenty skiers and snow boarders hit the slopes of Grand Geneva.

We also had a few adults who came along to just sit by the fire in the chalet and enjoy some good conversation or reading a good book.

After skiing, we all went out to Gino’s East Restaurant and enjoyed some pizza and pop.

We all had a great time—don’t miss this activity next year!

Pastor Kisses Pig to Help Out Belvidere Family

[following article along with picture was sent off to the local area newspapers]

On April 11, 2008 the Larry Rogman Family survived a house fire. The fire did destroy the contents of the first floor of their home. Sadly, due to financial problems, the family did not have house insurance. Immediately, members of the Belvidere community and members of Zion Lutheran Church, Belvidere came to their rescue.

Zion Lutheran has continued their support of the family. The congregation has provided financial, spiritual and emotional support through the months of rebuilding. Members of the congregation have donated building supplies and installed them for no charge. But the costs are huge.

So Pastor Karl Otto offered a challenge: "If you raise an additional $500 during the month of July, I will kiss a pig."On Sunday, August 3, the congregation met his challenge and Pastor kept his promise. The money raised was matched by the Boone County chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Pastor Otto thanks Mrs. Amy Saso for not only bringing the pig and but for washing his face too!

Contributions can still be made for the Rogman family through Zion Lutheran, 1300 Pearl Street, Belvidere.

Food Drive for Salvation Army

Thanks to all those that gave for the food collection for the Salvation Army. We had a great response to this from the congregation. It's sad that lots of Food Pantrys are running low and don't have enough to share.
